Nováková, Anežka ; Laufková, Veronika (advisor) ; Starý, Karel (referee)
The thesis deals with the development of reading literacy in lower secondary education (according to the international classification ISCED 2). It is divided into a theoretical and a research part. The theoretical part of the thesis defines reading literacy as an important competence for life in society, describes its individual components, its problematic position in the curriculum documents of Czech education and appropriate methods for its development. The research part of the thesis contains a description of the action research. The aim of the research is to improve the reading literacy of selected pupils at secondary school. First, we conducted an observation, a questionnaire survey to identify attitude to reading, and a pretest to determine students' reading literacy levels. Then, we designed intervention methods, implemented them and evaluated them. The research shows that regular and systematic inclusion of RWCT methods and reading workshops leads to the development of reading skills and a attitude to reading, especially it forms an inner need to read, creates reading habits and supports sharing reading experiences with each other. In conclusion, we propose recommendations for next work in the classroom, which will support the further development of reading literacy and motivate pupils to...

Štěrbíková, K.: Reading of images and reading of text as a way towards new experience from the book. /Thesis/ Prague 2014 - Charles University, Faculty of education, department of art education, 125 pages. The thesis examines the illustration of children's books - one of the forms of fine art. Therefore, this thesis focuses on the current concept of book illustration. Based on an intensive research the thesis is trying to detect those properties of book illustrations encouraging children to active participation and active relationship with the book. The interpretation of the image (illustration) is dealt with in close connection to the process of understanding conceptual meaning of the text reacting to the level of literacy skills achieved by Czech pupils. The program Critical thinking through reading and writing offers the option of increasing the level of literacy and at the same time the possibility of deepening the relationship of the child with the book. The survey results show differences between students in their ability to apply selected reading strategies. The research further confirms that the quantity and type of children's...
Embedding formative assessment in ISCED 2 in Science
Navrátilová, Lenka ; Laufková, Veronika (advisor) ; Chvál, Martin (referee)
The work deals with possible ways to implement formative assessment into education at the second stage of primary school at science subjects, particularly at natural history and chemistry. The assumption for successful implementation of formative assessment is healthy climate in the class and the support of mutual help between pupils meaning their awareness of synergic effects of work of the whole class such as collectiveness, full of mutual respect and awareness of the desire to achieve a common and successful goal. Related to this is the strengthening of cooperative learning, group work and also the way pupils' self-assessment to strengthen their growth thinking, create and strengthen their ability to think about their learning, thus metacognition. Formative assessment enriches not only the students but also the teacher himself. Based on the information obtained, he thinks better about his teaching. However, this presupposes the professionalism of the teacher, his openness to the feedback of the pupils. If the teacher accepts this as a chance to improve, then he is a person in the right place who has more prerequisites for serving students and their education. Demonstrations of formative assessment procedures in the practical part give a chance to a larger number of students to feel the joy of...
Supporting inclusive environment using a literature storyline
Ciarkowska, Agnieszka ; Němec, Zbyněk (advisor) ; Hájková, Vanda (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with a literary story as one of the tools for supporting an inclusive environment. The theoretical part is dedicated to the inclusive environment and its' fundamental and important principles as well as to reading literacy, book clubs and RWCT method - "Reading and Writing for Critical Thinking". The research part examines pupils' preconceptions and their development after participating in the reading comprehension lesson, in which the pupils read a story about a boy with Treacher-Collins syndrome. This part of the thesis describes the preparation and realization of such a lesson and analyses its' data. The qualitative approach has been applied here. Based on the triple diaries that the pupils kept during the reading comprehension lesson, the individual statements were analyzed using the open coding technique. The aim of the practical part was to find out what preconceptions pupils have about a person with a visible disability who might become their potential classmate and how their thinking changed after the lesson. The emphasis is put on individual knowledge and self-awareness of experience. The analysis of individual comments from the research survey revealed, that most pupils would feel anxious, pity, or an urge to taunt the disabled pupil, as well as they would be...
Cooperative Activities in Music Education in the Primary School
Kružíková, Dominika ; Selčanová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Prchal, Jan (referee)
Annotation: The diploma thesis focuses on cooperative activities connected with methods of critical thinking in the teaching of music education. I follow up on my annual paper dealing with cooperative games in primary school education. In my previous teaching practice, I focused on group teaching. It is the co-operative activities that offer a synergy of a particular group of pupils, thus not only helping to achieve learning objectives, but also strengthening the positive relationships among pupils within the group. The cooperation offers scope for the development of critical thinking among pupils. In conjunction with other alternative forms of learning, it develops the pupil's musical abilities more effectively (unlike normal frontal education). I started to devote myself to this topic mainly because I did not meet with a similarly invigorating approach in my previous practice in schools. It was a strong motivation for me to explore this issue and try it practically. I would like to give my teacher colleagues new insights into the concept of music education. The work explains the basic concepts of cooperative teaching. It brings the methods and forms of teaching that are appropriate for the development of the necessary key competencies. My goal will not be to focus on all the key competencies the pupil...
Discovering the Sense of the Poems with Pupils of the 3rd grade of Primary School
Orságová, Veronika ; Hník, Ondřej (advisor) ; Peterka, Josef (referee)
The goal of my dissertation is to find ways and methods by which pupils will be able to most effectively reveal the sense of poetic text. Unearthing the meaning of the poem requires a proactive approach of pupil. It is incompatible with the transmissive approach in teaching. Much knowledge is inspired by constructivist teaching methods. The work is aimed at pupils of the third grade of elementary school. In the practical part based on lessons learned from the literature I suggest pilot verification and contemplate such literary and educational activities in the first grade of primary school, where the teacher has the uncovering of the meanig of poetic text as the primary objective. The methods used in this work are consistent with the program Reading and Writing for Critical Thinking.

Pospíšilová, Věra ; Havlůjová, Hana (advisor) ; Parkan, František (referee)
This diploma thesis focuses on the methods of RWCT (Reading and Writing for Critical Thinking) programme and their possible use in lower secondary school history teaching. The principles and key methods of this programme are explored in the theoretical part of the thesis. Special attention is paid to the principles of the E-U-R learning cycle (evocation - realization of meaning - reflection) and the correspondence of RWCT to the Czech national curriculum outlined in the Framework Education Programme for Elementary Education (RVP ZV) in order to show that the RWCT programme corresponds to and further develops all competencies distinguished by RVP ZV. The practical part if the thesis contains methodology and resources for ten history lessons all of which are focused on the period of the 1960s. The lessons follow the learning cycle E-U-R and take advantage of the RWCT programme methodology. The aim of this diploma thesis is to serve as a practical guide for teachers who are looking for some inspiration on how to teach the period of the 1960s. However, other teachers can find it useful for its outline of various methods. KEYWORDS RWCT, Framework Education Programme for Elementary Education (RVP ZV), E-U-R learning cycle (evocation - realization of meaning - reflection), modern history, 1960s, lower...
